The Joup Friday Album: Daft Punk – Alive 2007

Alive2007Big news, people! The sun is shining in Chicago, and it’s not scheduled to set until after 5PM! The 10-day weather forecast indicates a mere 2 days below 30 degrees. Things are looking up. The temps are rising. People are creating and reuniting. Supergroups are forming. This all means one big thing.

Summer concert festival season is upon us.

I know fests aren’t for everyone, but I love them. There’s something about dancing in a crowd of the unwashed masses that just makes me happy. Lollpalooza, even with it’s often questionable lineups, is consistently one of my favorite weekends of the year. There are so many wonderful, small moments of crowd-fed passion that I can’t even describe. I’ve made friends from Ireland and France. I’ve been on stage with Iggy Pop and the Stooges. I’ve discovered some of my favorite musical acts, merely by trying to kill some time in the middle of an afternoon. It all starts somewhere, and that’s with the first headliner I’d ever seen in a large festival environment: Daft Punk.

Daft Punk’s second live album, Alive 2007, was recorded at Bercy in Paris on June 14, 2007. The setlist featured on this album is the very thing I saw a couple months later at Lollapalooza, and it’s absolutely magical.

Alive 2007 is the perfect marriage of Daft Punk’s albums, from Homework to Discovery. When the mood strike me, and I want to listen to Daft Punk, it’s the only album I typically choose. These tracks are blended flawlessly and made better together. It gives their fans what they want, and that’s a party. This album on full blast takes me right back to experiencing it firsthand. It’s fun, it’s energetic, and it’s (at least to me) absolutely blissful.

I was there, man.

I’ve included the usual YouTube playlist for this album, but I do highly recommend going with a gapless playback. It’s also available on Spotify and Google Play Music, as well.  With Showtime’s release of the documentary, Daft Punk Unchained, you can easily make a night of this. Get some party lighting and a few friends. Have a little fun this weekend. Dance in the living room. Be happy. That’s my plan, at least.
