Have you ever had an experience that completely humbled you? Probably. We all get them from time to time, the dividing line being between those who pay attention to these occurrences and try to integrate them into their lives as a source of betterment, and those who simply shirk them off, preferring to leave their lives unchanged. I for one try to pay attention, and I will tell you now that earlier today when I set out to do a little research for this week’s column I had one of those experiences, quite unexpectedly. Here all I set out to do was tell you about a new comic called A Voice in the Dark that I am absolutely CRAZY about when I encountered the story of a man that inspired me in ways I cannot even begin to describe. The man’s name is Larime Taylor and he is the creator/writer/artist/letterer of A Voice in The Dark.

Thee Comic Column #67: My Favorite Comics of 2013

Yes indeed I am a little late with this, but things have been heating up the last few weeks what with the holidays and a crazy work schedule so I’ve not had the ample time to reflect on all the absolutely amazing comics that were published last year. Yeah, I know – excuses excuses. After doing a similar column last year with a ‘best of’ moments snapshot I thought I’d do another but focus more on the books that blew me away in 2013, as it was a grand year for comics all around. Below is a short list of some of my favorites.

This week’s column was originally going to be about the best comic book news all year – the return of David Lapham’s Stray Bullets! However in the cosmic balance of ying/yang, the good news was almost immediately followed by the worst¬†news in comics this year. The heartbreak arrived via Twitter when earlier in the week when iconic comic book creator Terry Moore – best known for the long-running and highly influential series Strangers in Paradise – tweeted the following about his newest series, Rachel Rising:
