Thee Comic Column #28: The End of Scott Snyder’s Swamp Thing

It’s been approximately a year and a half since DC launched the New 52 and Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette took on the daunting task of reinventing Swamp Thing. This week that run ended with its 18th issue. I’ve got to tell you, I’ve become quite a fan of Mr. Snyder’s, all largely due to this particular book. I missed the boat on American Vampire – as good as I kept hearing it was upon initial release I’ve suffered from Vampire burnout for the last few years and just have no interest in the fictional species. I missed the boat on his Batman revamp too, however when I tried to remedy that I found that I really didn’t care for it at all. No, with Snyder it was Swamp Thing and a little book called Severed - which is phenomenal – that made me a fan.

Thee Comics Column #23 – Gary Spencer Millidge’s Strangehaven

I remember reading about Strangehaven back in the mid-nineties. Probably in Wrapped In Plastic magazine, as it very easily would have/will appeal to fans of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s landmark television series Twin Peaks. Somehow, despite my rabid Twin Peaks obsession I never managed to pick up even a single copy of Strangehaven. If I had – picked up even a single copy that is – I would  have read the series start to finish as I’m planning to do now after stumbling ass-backwards into a copy of the first trade, “Arcadia”.

Thee Comic Column #2: The New 52 One Year In

I’ll admit that if you had told me  a year ago that I would be reading ANYTHING from DC’s New 52 Reboot/Relaunch except for the Grant Morrison helmed books I probably would have laughed in your face. Then you would have downed the rest of your pint in one long, arrogant gulp and smashed me in the face with the glass. Then I would have invoked the power of Garth Ennis and kicked your arse.

But color me surprised, none of that happened and I am indeed following several of the *ahem* New 52.
