Last night, a piece of human garbage named Rashad Charjuan Owens got drunk, drove his car, fled from police, and plowed through a blocked off street killing two people and injuring another 23.  In light of that, it doesn’t really feel right to go into any detail about all the fun happenings around Austin today.  A cloud and a general somberness kind of hung over most of the day’s events, but everyone also just seemed a little friendlier today.  There’s a collective numbness that usually occurs after a tragedy, but there can also be a collective oneness as well.  Even in the darkness you can feel the love.  Thoughts, prayers, and love to everybody.

Today, I was fortunate enough to see Calvin Love, Cities Aviv, Overdoz, Nicole Atkins, Trash Talk, nothing, BADBADNOTGOOD, Tyler The Creator, The Midgetmen, and Diarrhea Planet (again!).  That particular foul-named Nashville six-piece is easily becoming my new favorite band.  You owe it to yourself to give them a listen.

And too end on a lighter and excellent note, The Midgetmen and Diarrhea Planet were joined on stage by Melissa Etheridge for a rendition of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ “Refugee,” and it was amazing.

From a bunker somewhere in Central Texas, Thomas H. Williams spends most of his time with his wife, his two sons, and his increasingly neurotic dog. He listens to a lot of music, drinks a lot of excellent beers, and gets out from time to time. For even more shenanigans, visit heavenisanincubator.blogspot.com.

Amazing coverage Tommy. I’m so behind on EVERYTHING – I had no idea about the tragedy. Always a new low.
