For some of you who may be unfamiliar with Bohren & Der Club of Gore I know what you think this record is going to sound like and I can assure you that you could not be more wrong. So seriously, don’t skip this! When the sun goes down fire up a gin martini and find a place where you can settle in to a late night accessible mind frame uninterrupted for a while, because this is the perfect vibe for a Friday night. In fact, I don’t know why I’m posting this as early in the day as I am, but I guess this way you’ll at least get a heads up for this evening. Because when I say that, to me, there is a lot of music I consider day time music and a lot I consider night time music I should also clarify that some music can be both. However Sunset Mission – and Bohren in general – is pretty specifically night time music.

But far be it from me to tell you how to listen to your music.

But oh, what’s that? Yeah, see, I thought so. If the sun is up and you’re trying to lay waste to my claim by running through this bad ass little number that some call Jazz Core, some call Slow Core and me, I call awesome. Sunset Mission, as with all of Bohren & Der Club of Gore’s music, the music playing in Twin Peak’s Black Lodge while Garmonbozia is served every Friday with thick, rich black coffee and some human suffering on the side. It’s the elevator music playing in the long-ass elevator ride to the Devil’s inverted Penthouse suite at the very base of the inverted cross that is the main corridor of Hotel Hell (the lounge is just to the left of that penthouse suite and the band will be performing there nightly… at some point. And it’s the music I play on those winsome nights where I sip a strong cocktail and look out my window at the sun as it dies another day, choking out strangled pink and crimson lights as the Moon ascends in its place, removes its black leather gloves and welcomes its children with open, smiling arms.

But make no mistake, this is just an introduction…
