The Joup Friday Album: ‘Dirty Fan Male’ Trunk Records

I’ll never forgot about DRE.

He was a young and eager GP, visibly perplexed by my ‘presentation’ but stubbornly reluctant to tessellate my gastroenterological symptoms toward the neighbourhood of research I’d done on the internet to save him time. I’d been suffering from a white hot smoulder below my navel that would occur two hours after eating and knock me onto my back for extended stretches, leaving me feeling pinned to the spot like a display case insect.

“I think we’d better do a DRE…” he said.

Endless Loop: Cheap Beer

fidlarHave you ever had one of those songs that gets stuck in your head for days…weeks…years? Sure you have. These are the songs that always make the cut. The songs on repeat. We all have them. I have a ton. Welcome back to Endless Loop.

“Cheap Beer” by FIDLAR

I drink a lot of beer. Not in an alcoholic way or anything, I just like to sample a large swath of different craft brews from all over the country. I even write about it. That being said, there was a time before the craft beer explosion, before I had a little bit of extra income to spend on pricier lagers and ales, before I grew up a little, when quantity always outweighed quality. The cheaper the beer, the better, because that meant there would be more of it.

The Joup Friday Album: The Flaming Lips ‘ Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’

220px-TheFlamingLips-YoshimiBattlesThePinkRobotsI’m afraid that if you thought you were potentially entering an article detached from a world that’s gone bananas over Star Wars you’re mistaken, I went to see it today. At the risk of coming across like a thrift-store Sith Lord, today’s been a razor blade ticker tape parade. Over the past few months, when our schedules would allow, a few friends and I have been working our way through the previous six films in anticipation of the new release. Before the screening commenced on ‘Jedi night’ last Saturday, one of my friends casually announced that as fate would have it, he had a hospital appointment scheduled after the screening of ‘The Force Awakens’ to discuss a long running chronic complaint he’s been suffering since his early twenties. The upshot of this conversation was that a recent setback and hospitalisation had not been countered as well as medical professionals had hoped, and that beyond that unsuccessful course of action was a disconcerting lack of a plan. My friend said he was just looking forward to seeing Star Wars.

The Loneliness of the 4-Times-a-Week, 6AM Runner

joggersNever in a million years did I ever think I would write an essay about running.  I hate running.  I can think of hundreds…thousands of things that I would rather do with my time than throw on some tennis shoes and go run around my neighborhood with my dog in tow before the sun comes up.  Like sleeping.  Sleeping is awesome.  Running is not.  But for some reason or another, my body and mind have become so hooked on this whole running in the morning thing, that my brain is an absolute mess if I skip out on it.

Joup Confession…(part 4)

So our main contributors have bared a small piece of their music skeletons. And I was tagged to enter the booth. I really had a tough time with because, you know ALL the music I listen is great and I have impeccable taste.

*Cue the eye rolls and bullshit cough in the background.

Joup’s Friday Album: Lovage – Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By

lovageWhy don’t you go ahead and come over here and sit by the fire.  Have yourself a drink…something smooth.  Listen to the ice cubes clink around in the glass as you slink down onto the soft and plush rug on the floor.  Close your eyes and breathe deeply.  Feel the heat from the hearth on your face.  Relax.  Loosen those top buttons on your shirt and prepare yourself for an aural aphrodisiac.  It’s about to get a whole lot sexier in here.

The Sunday Song Poem #9 ‘Feeling Beside Myself’ Buddy Raye

feelingbesidemyself

Despite the papal canonisation today (broadcast in 3D to select cinemas and News channels, anyone catch that, did they have that swinging, incense lantern flying out atcha?), I feel like I should eschew the subject since I kind of already did the Holy Song Poem last Sunday. Not only that, but try as I might I couldn’t find a Song Poem for a Pope, which I find hard to believe having encountered a fair few about Richard Nixon, Elvis, Christopher Columbus, and Sexploitation actors turned male midwives. So instead I decided to just go straight for the crazy, literally in today’s case.
